With the season winding down across most of the United States, especially in Texas, now is a great time to look at your dock as you prepare it for the winter months. Many in the Austin, and throughout southern Texas will still be able to use their docks year round. The cool part is that both fall and spring are great times to look and see if anything needs to be done. Its maintenance time.
What Type of Floating Dock do you have?
What type of dock will determine the type of maintenance necessary to keep it ready year round. The old wood docks may need some power washing, tightening of fittings, some new ropes checking bords for rotting, nails, and other similar fixes.
Some of the newer docks, like the ones sold by EZDock of Texas are more maintenance free. I took this comparison off their website:
While there are many advantages of EZ Dock over traditional wood docks, the most significant is the reduced maintenance, which can be measured in both time and money saved. EZ Dock sections don’t rust or splinter, nor do they have individual boards that need to be replaced or painted. Pressure washing is a thing of the past with EZ Dock. Soap and water from a traditional garden hose are all you need to clean your EZ Dock system.
Whatever type of dock you have, to get the most fun out of it, you must maintain it. I suggest looking at it at least twice a year, that is unless you have anEZDock Texas dock. Its always easy to get my SeaRay docked next to one of them. Happy fall and see you in the Spring for more tips.
